Garage Door Opener Installation in Augusta, GA

Adding an opener to a manual door or a new garage? We install it securely, align the sensors, set force and limits, and program your remotes.

Correctly Installed Openers Last Longer

An opener is only as good as its installation. A rail mounted off-center, a header bracket in weak drywall, sensors placed too high, or force set too strong can all lead to noise, early wear and safety problems.

We install openers on manual doors, new doors and new garages, making sure the door is balanced first and that every safety feature works before we leave.

  • Door balance and condition check first
  • Secure header and ceiling mounting
  • Photo-eye sensors installed and aligned
  • Travel limits and force set and tested
  • Wall control, remotes and keypad programmed

Before we install: the door must be ready

An opener should never be used to make up for a heavy or damaged door. We check spring balance, rollers, hinges and tracks first. On older manual doors we also check whether a reinforcement strut is needed on the top section where the opener arm attaches, and we remove or disable any manual lock.

Installing an opener on a door with a manual lock still engaged — or on a door with weak springs — can bend the top section and damage the opener.

Choosing where and how to mount

Ceiling-mounted openers (chain, belt or screw drive) need clearance above the door’s travel and a solid mounting point at the header.

Wall-mount openers attach to the end of the torsion shaft, which suits garages with high ceilings, storage racks or low headroom. They require a torsion-spring door.

Power — the opener needs a grounded outlet near the unit. If there isn’t one, an electrician may need to add one before installation.

Safety setup

  1. Photo-eye sensors are mounted on both sides of the door, typically no more than about six inches above the floor, and aligned so their indicator lights are steady.
  2. The wall control is mounted out of children’s reach and in sight of the door.
  3. Travel limits are set so the door closes fully without pushing into the floor.
  4. Force is set as low as practical, and the auto-reverse is tested with a 1½-inch object (such as a 2x4 laid flat) under the door.
  5. The emergency release is checked so it can be used from inside.

Opener Installation FAQs

Can you add an opener to my manual garage door?

Usually, yes, as long as the door is balanced and in good condition. We may recommend a reinforcement strut on the top section and will disable the manual lock.

How high should garage door sensors be mounted?

Follow the opener manufacturer’s instructions, which typically call for the sensors to be no more than about six inches above the floor so they detect small children and pets.

Do I need an outlet on the ceiling for an opener?

Ceiling-mounted openers need a nearby grounded outlet. Wall-mount openers need one beside the door. If there isn’t an outlet, an electrician should add one.

What is the auto-reverse test?

With the door open, place a 1½-inch object such as a 2x4 laid flat in the door’s path and close the door. It should reverse after contacting the object. Test it monthly.

Can an opener be installed on a door with extension springs?

Ceiling-mounted openers work with both torsion and extension spring doors. Wall-mount openers require a torsion spring system.

Will you program my car’s built-in remote?

We can help set up compatible vehicle remotes, though some vehicles need a bridge adapter for newer opener radios.
